Even if you're stuck indoors, there are plenty of ways to encourage your little one to exercise!
1. Have a dance party
OBJECTIVE:
Dancing is wonderful exercise, releases endorphins and is a fun family activity!
DIRECTIONS:
What to do:
1. Use YouTube, Spotify, Apple Play or even the radio to find some fun numbers to dance to.
2. Remember, you don't have to stick to children's music; play some pop music too!
2. Build an obstacle course indoors
OBJECTIVE:
Use the furniture and toys you have to create a fun obstacle course that will challenge your child and help them build on their gross motor skills.
DIRECTIONS:
Equipment:
- Chairs
- Couches
- Tables
- Hula hoops
- Jump rope
- Anything else; be creative!
What to do:
1. Set up the obstacle course; it may involve crawling under a table, throwing a ball into a hoop or jumping into and out of two hula hoops.
2. Keep varying the course for hours of fun!
3. Indoor Yoga
OBJECTIVE:
Yoga is calming for both the body and mind. Do some daily yoga with your child to increase flexibility, strengthen your bodies and build on your mindfulness!
DIRECTIONS:
Equipment:
- Enough space to stretch
What to do:
1. Spend 15-30 minutes each day doing simple yoga poses with your child.
2. Some simple poses to begin with are the tree pose, the lion pose and the butterfly pose.
Use Yoga in the Jungle to help build on your child's knowledge of yoga.
